About Cooking Measurements

US recipes use volume measures (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons), while most of the world and all professional baking uses weight (grams). Converting cups to grams depends on the ingredient β€” flour and sugar have very different densities. Use the weight chart above or the individual converter for accurate results.

Key tip: never scoop flour directly from the bag β€” this compacts it and adds 20–30% extra weight. Spoon flour lightly into the cup, then level off the top. Better still, use a digital scale. 1 cup of plain flour = 125 g (spoon-and-level), not 150 g (scooped).

Note: a US tablespoon = 14.79 ml, a UK tablespoon = 15 ml, an Australian tablespoon = 20 ml. For baking, the difference is negligible. For medication dosing, always use ml.
